Chestnut Hill, MA - A number of Boston College women's soccer players were honored by Soccer Buzz as announced today.
Freshman goalkeeper Jillian Mastroianni was named a Soccer Buzz All-America third team, while fellow freshman midfielder Julia Bouchelle earned fourth team honors.
Mastroianni, Bouchelle and Alyssa Pember were all named to the Soccer Buzz Freshmen All-America first team. Boston College was the only team to have three freshmen on the first team, while Stanford had two. Bouchelle picked up the All-Northeast Region Freshman of the Year. It marks the third consecutive season in which BC has picked up the award. In 2006, Gina DiMartino earned the award, followed by defender Hannah Cerrone in 2007.
The three freshmen - Mastroianni, Bouchelle and Pember - were all named to the All-Freshman Northeast Region team. Bouchelle was also one of five ACC freshmen to be a finalist for the 2008 Soccer Buzz Freshman of the Year award.
Five Eagles were named to the All-Northeast Regional first team. Bouchelle, sophomore forward Brooke Knowlton, junior midfielder Kelly Henderson, sophomore defender Hannah Cerrone and freshman goalkeeper Jillian Mastroianni were all named to the first team. It was the second time Kowlton earned All-Northeast Region honors, while it was the second year in which Cerrone was named to the first team All-Northeast Region squad.
Freshman Alyssa Pember and senior defender Caroline Walden were named to the All-Northeast Region second team. It is the third consecutive season Walden has earned all-region honors.
