Boston College is on the final leg of a three-game home stand. The Eagles will host ACC foe Clemson (12-7, 2-3 ACC) tonight (7 p.m.). Boston College opened the week with an impressive 62-54 victory over Miami on Sunday, Jan. 18. A mid-week win over non-conference foe NJIT (78-50) helped the Eagles improve to 15-4.
Fans bringing canned goods will receive free admission tonight.
BC vs. CLEMSON
• Boston College will host Clemson on Friday, Jan. 23 at Conte Forum. BC and Clemson have played four times with BC leading the series, 3-1.
• Last season, BC defeated Clemson on the road, 68-63. BC was led by a double-double by Carolyn Swords with 18 points and 10 rebounds.
• The Eagles and the Tigers played for the fist time on December 28, 1996 when Clemson captured a 55-52 victory.
• Ayla Brown leads all current plays in points and rebounds vs. Clemson. Brown had 18 points in 2006 vs. the Tigers. She went 10-for-10 from the free throw line. In two games, she has 26 points, 16 rebounds and six steals. Mickel Picco has compiled 10 points, seven rebounds and has hit three three-pointers in two games vs. Clemson.
LAST TIME OUT
Boston College defeated New Jersey Institute of Technology, 78-50, behind 15 points from Stefanie Murphy and 14 from Carolyn Swords. Junior guard Mickel Picco added 13 points while LaShaunda Pratt had eight points and five rebounds off the bench.
Murphy also had career-highs in steals (5) and blocks (4) in the win. Picco kept her three-point streak alive as she went 3-for-7 from the arc. The Austin, TX native has now hit a three in every game this season and has had two or more in 15 of 19 games.
Boston College pulled away from NJIT in the second half as Picco and Murphy combined for a 12-2 run. The Eagles opened the lead to 17 points at 13:52 on a layup by Swords. A three-pointer in the corner by senior Corey Rusin (7 points, four rebounds) gave BC a 22 point lead, 68-46.
PLAYER NOTES
• Junior Mickel Picco extended her three-point streak. The Austin, Texas native has hit a three-pointer in 27 consecutive games dating back to the 2007-08 season. She now has 54 this season and 137 career treys. She is fifth on the all-time list at BC for three-pointers made. The record is held by Cal Bouchard with 212.
• Stefanie Murphy had a career-high five steals vs. NJIT on Wednesday, Jan. 21. The 6-foot-4 forward also notched a career-high in blocks with four. Both feats occurred in the second half.
• Murphy is also 9-for-9 in free throws in the last two games. She also was perfect from the field for the first time this season (6-for-6) against NJIT. She finished with 15 points.
• Sophomore guard LaShaunda Pratt played 11 minutes, scored eight points, grabbed a season-high five rebounds and had two steals.
• Sophomore Jaclyn Thoman is 4-for-5 from the three-point arc in the last two games. Thoman went 1-for-1 vs. NJIT and 3-for-4 fvs. Miami. It is the second time in her career in which Thoman has hit three 3-pointers. She went 3-for-3 vs. Georgia Tech on Feb. 18, 2008.
• BC had 23 team assists vs. NJIT. Four players - Ayla Brown, Victoria Jones and Mickel Picco each had four assists apiece in the game.
