
Volleyball Drops ACC Opener to Maryland

College Park, Md. - The Boston College volleyball team fell to Maryland in its first ACC game of the season. After the Eagles took the first set, the Terrapins rallied for three consecutive set wins for a 3-1 victory.
With the loss, the Eagles dropped to 0-1 in the ACC and 6-7 overall, while Maryland improved to 1-0 in the ACC and 5-8 overall.
In the first set, the Eagles went on a 4-0 run after a Melanie Cimino kill and three straight Maryland attack errors to take a commanding 22-16 lead in the set. BC would go on to win the set 25-19.
The Terrapins rallied in the beginning of the second set for a 12-3 lead, a margin which the Eagles never threatened. Maryland evened the score at 1-1 with a 25-15.
Maryland seized the momentum of the match in the third set. With the set tied 19-19, the Terrapins notched five of the next six points for a 24-20 lead, eventually closing out the set at 25-21.
In the fourth set, Maryland used another late run to pull away. Katie Usher, Maryland's team leader in kills, registered two in a span of three consecutive points for the Terrapins, giving the home team a 17-14 lead. The Eagles would not get closer than two points the rest of the way, falling 25-20.
Leading the way for BC was Cimino, who registered 10 kills and three blocks. Dani Moskitis had 25 assists and Brennan Clark added 13 digs for the Eagles.
The Eagles will continue ACC play on Friday, Sept. 26, when they travel to Raleigh, N.C. to take on NC State.
