Chestnut Hill, MA - The 2008 ACC Awards were announced today from the conference office and the Boston College women's soccer team is well represented.
Three players - senior Caroline Walden, freshman Julia Bouchelle and freshman Jillian Mastroianni - were all named to the All-ACC second-team. Bouchelle, Mastroianni and Alyssa Pember were all named to the All-ACC Freshman team.
Walden, a native of Guilford, CT, was named to the All-ACC second-team. She has started 78 of the 80 games played at BC in four years. She earned the Soccer Buzz All-Northeast honors as a junior and was invited to train with the Under-23 US Women's National Team this past summer. Walden, a defender, currently has four goals, seven assists for 15 career points.
Bouchelle, a native of Cockeysville, MD, was named to both the second-team All-ACC and the All-Freshman team. Bouchelle is the Eagles second leading scorer with seven goals and one assist for 15 points. This creative midfielder has notched four game-winning goals in her first season.
Freshman goalkeeper Jillian Mastroianni, a native of Durham, CT, also made both the All-ACC second-team and All-Freshman team. She has started 17 of 18 games for the Eagles this season. Mastroianni, who has seven shutouts this season, has a goals-against-average of 0.85, good enough for second in the ACC.
Freshman defender Alyssa Pember was named to the All-Freshman team. A native of Northport, New York, Pember battled injuries very early in the season only to bounce back and become a presence in the back line for the Eagles. Pember is part of a foursome on defense that has let up only eight goals in the high-scoring ACC conference. She is also a threat offensively and scored her first collegiate goal against on October 2 vs. Miami.
No. 10 Boston College women's soccer team is seeded fourth in the Atlantic Coast Conference Championship which will begin on Wednesday, November 5 at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, North Carolina. The Eagles will play fifth-seeded Duke University on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m.
Boston College is currently 12-4-2 overall and finished with a record-high of six wins in the ACC (6-3-1), while No. 16 ranked Duke finished the season at 12-4-2 overall and 4-3-3 in the ACC. The third place finish is the highest Boston College has placed in the final regular season standings since it joined the ACC in 2005
