At the NEIFC/NEWIFA Fall Invitational at Smith College, the Women's Fencing team began their season. The fall event, affectionally known as "The Big One" by generations of New England collegiate fencers, serves as the traditional start of the college fencing season. The 2008 event was the largest ever, with 400 fencers representing nearly 20 schools.
In the women's sabre event, freshman Chelsea Rosenbauer showed huge heart and determination, fighting her way back in three successive direct elimination bouts, winning 15-14, 15-13, and 15-14, before losing in the forth round 14-15 to place 3rd overall. Also in the women's sabre event, junior Syringa Ko placed 26th and senior Amanda Cortes placed 35th out of 63 entries, rounding out BC's top three finishers in that event.
In the women's epee event, junior Heather Ciganek placed 6th and sophomore Ali LeTendre placed 25th out of 58 contenders.
