Men's Fencing Season Begins

At the NEIFC/NEWIFA Fall Invitational at Smith College, the Men's Fencing team began their season. The fall event, affectionally known as "The Big One" by generations of New England collegiate fencers, serves at the traditional start of the college fencing season. The 2008 event was the largest ever, with 400 fencers representing nearly 20 schools.
In the men's sabre event, freshman Peter Souders launched his collegiate career with a first place finish. Souders battled rival Marty Williams of Sacred Heart University in the gold medal bout, coming from behind to win the encounter 15-14. Boston College placed three fencers in the top eight of the men's sabre event, the only school to do so. Junior Malcolm Conley placed 6th and senior Ian Griswold placed 8th out of 66 entries.
In the men's epee event, sophomore Corin Porter placed 14th, senior Peter Lowe placed 37th, and senior Adam Berkland placed 42nd out of 76 contenders.
