Chestnut Hill, MA - The Boston College Field Hockey team defeated the University of New Hampshire 3-2 in overtime on Sunday afternoon at the Newton Campus Field Hockey Complex.
Wearing pink jerseys in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Eagles struck first when freshman midfielder Kate Gillis netted her first collegiate goal on a pass across the circle from senior forward Kathleen Murphy.
UNH fired back, potting their first goal with two minutes left in the period to send the teams into the second period tied at one.
BC regained the lead at the beginning of the second half when senior midfielder Katie Quaglia corralled a loose ball of an offensive corner and shot it at the UNH goal where it was tipped in by fellow midfielder Tara Fernandes.
UNH netted an equalizer in the 65th minute and despite having the advantage in field possession and shot production, BC was unable to gain an advantage in regulation.
The two teams battled back and forth between during overtime but it was BC's Janna Anctil who gave the Eagles the win when her shot to the left corner of the cage beat the Wildcats goalkeeper to give BC the win.
BC raised $483 for the breast cancer charities during the game.
The Eagles get back to action on Wednesday October 22, when they travel across the Charles to take on Harvard University at 7 p.m.
