Massachusetts Sweeps Swimming

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Boston College men's and women's swimming teams were defeated by Massachusetts, Friday evening at the Flynn Complex Pool. The men (5-6, 0-1 ACC) were defeated, 179-119, while the women (7-4, 0-1 ACC) dropped a 158.5-114.5 decision.
On the men's side, John Maloy won three events to lead the team. Maloy won the 1,000 freestyle (10:06.36), 500 freestyle (4:51.83) and 200 medley (2:00.22).
Dominick Boccio earned Outstanding Performer honors for the men's team. He finished first in the 200 freestyle in 1:48.21. The Eagles 200 freestyle relay team placed first in 1:28.61.
On the women's side, Caroline Byron swept the three freestyle sprint events. Byron won the 50 freestyle (25.03), 100 freestyle (54.58) and 200 freestyle (1:58.50) to lead the way for the Eagles.
Mari Wunschel and Jenna DiNovis rounded out the first place finishers for the women's team. Wunschel earned Outstanding Performer with a 200 medley (2:13.99) victory. DiNovis won the 1,000 freestyle in 10:59.75.
The next dual meet for the Eagles is against Maine on Jan. 25 in Orono, Maine.
