GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Atlantic Coast Conference released the 2007 All-ACC Academic Men's and Women's Track & Field teams announced Friday by Commissioner John D. Swofford. All 12 league schools are represented on the honors team.
To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during his/her academic career.
Boston College had four student-athletes honored for their academic accomplishments. On the women's track and field team, senior Kasey Hill, junior Tiana Riel and freshman Caitlin Bailey were all named to the ACC women's academic team. Junior Jeremy Zagorski earned the honors from the Eagles men's track and field team.
Hill, a Vermont native, qualified for the NCAA competition in the pentathlon this past season. She placed third at the ECAC Championships with 4016 points, which ranked her 13th in the country in the pentathlon.
Riel, a Hopkinton (MA) native, placed third at the ACC Championships in the heptathlon with 5,200 points this past spring. She captured the long jump and 100 meter hurdle race at the UMass Invitational. She also won the heptathlon at New Englands with 5,207 points.
Bailey, an Ontario native, captured a first in the 400 meters (56.68) and the 800 meters (2:08.99) at the New England Championship at UNH. She also took second at the ACC Championships in the 800 (2:07.75). At the NCAA Championships, Bailey advanced to the semifinal round by setting her personal best in the 800 (2:05.18).
Zagorski, a New Jersey native, placed 21st in the 1500 meter run at the NCAA Regionals. He captured first place in the 1500 (3:47.59) at the New England Championships. Zagorski placed eighth at the ACC Championships in the same race.
