CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Men's tennis headed to Greensboro after a stop in Durham to take on the Elon University for their first match of a double header and dropped a 5-0 decision to the No. 44 Phoenix Saturday morning at Barber Park.
The Phoenix would win five out of a possible six singles matches en route to the victory. Damon Gooch downed Soma Kesthely 6-2, 6-4 at No. 1, while Anuwat Dalodom upended Sam Wagner 6-4, 6-2 at No. 2. Sebastian Bredberg beat Alex Rastorgouer 6-4, 6-2 at No. 4 and Gustaf Asplund ousted Brian Garber 6-3, 6-2 at No. 5. Doubles were not contested.
In the day's second match, the Eagles visited Chapel Hill, N.C. to take on the fifth-ranked Tar Heels and dropped a 5-2 decision at the Cone Kenfield Tennis Center Saturday. The doubles point and four singles wins propelled the Tar Heels to their 19th straight win of the season and fourth straight victory over BC.
Victories from all three positions in doubles gave Carolina the lead entering singles action. Sebastian Guejman and Tristan Heinrich were the first off the court as they defeated Thomas Nolan and Geoff Mueller, 8-6. Lenny Gullan and David Stone clinched the doubles point at the one position with an 8-5 triumph over Alex Rastorgouev and Sam Wagner.
Sebastian Guejman and Alex Rastorgouev were both forced to retire from their matches at the three and four seeds, respectively. Taylor Fogleman led Rastorgouev at the four seed before he retired, giving North Carolina a 2-0 margin.
Tristian Heinrich, playing at the six position, gave the Tar Heels a 3-0 cushion when he defeated Dennis Reardon, 6-2, 6-4. Guejman's retirement at the three seed against Thomas Nolan gave Boston College its first point, the match score then stood at 3-1.
BC's second point came from a match-tiebreak victory at the one seed. No. 121 Chris Kearney, who moved up to the one position for the first time, fell to Soma Kesthely despite winning the first set, 2-6, 6-3, 10-5.
The Eagles are back in action on Friday, April 13 when they travel to Clemson, S.C. to take on the Clemson Tigers at 3:00 p.m.
