ACC Names 2007 Postgraduate Scholarship Recipients

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Forty-five Atlantic Coast Conference scholar-athletes have been named recipients of postgraduate scholarships, as announced by Commissioner John D. Swofford. The Weaver-James-Corrigan and Jim and Pat Thacker scholarships are given to selected student-athletes who intend to pursue a graduate-level degree following graduation. Each recipient will receive $5,000 to use towards his or her graduate education. Student-athletes receiving the award have performed with distinction in both the classroom and in their respective sports, while demonstrating exemplary conduct in the community.
In addition to those receiving scholarship funds, nine student-athletes will receive Weaver-James-Corrigan Honorary Awards. These students will be recognized for their outstanding performance in both athletic competition and the classroom throughout their collegiate careers and intend to compete at the Olympic or professional level.
Three Boston College student-athletes - Allison Anderson, Robert Dittrich and Jennifer Maurer - are recipients of the postgraduate scholarships.
Anderson and Dittrich will receive the Weaver-James-Corrigan Award. Anderson was a member of the women's volleyball team, while Dittrich was a member of the baseball team.
Currently training with the U.S. Women's National Volleyball team, Anderson was named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association All-America honorable mention list this past season. A native of Moraga, California, Anderson earned All-ACC first-team honors as a libero for the second consecutive season. She was named to the AVCA All-Region East team in 2006 and led the Eagles and the ACC with 5.54 digs per game. Anderson is a three-time Athletic Director's Award for Academic Achievement honoree.
Dittrich, a 2006 Boston College graduate, played in 15 games and started five his senior season. A native of Magnolia, Texas, he had three hits, four runs scored and three RBI as a senior. As a junior, Dittrich started 12 of 15 games and recorded seven RBI, a double and a triple.
Maurer will receive the Pat Thacker Scholarship. A native of East Longmeadow, Maurer started every game in four seasons as a member of the women's soccer team. A two-time All-ACC Academic selection and a two-time CoSIDA All-District Academic honoree Maurer was a first-team All-ACC and NSCAA All-Region honoree. She finished her four years with 13 goals and 24 assists for 50 career points Maurer helped the Eagles advanced to four straight NCAA Tournament berths and three straight "Sweet 16's".
The 45 student-athletes will be honored April 12, 2007, in Greensboro, N.C., at a luncheon hosted by the Nat Greene Kiwanis Club. The luncheon will be held at the Koury Convention Center.
