Three Eagles Earn Spots on the NFHCA National Academic Squad

Chestnut Hill, Mass.--The National Field Hockey Coaches' Association announced its Division I National Academic Squad on Monday with three Boston College student-athletes including on that list. Sophomore goaltender Julia Berkowitz (Amherst. Mass.), senior forward Mary DeFilippo (Wellesley, Mass.) and freshman goaltender Kristine Stigas (Canton, Mass.) were recognized for achieving a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.30 through the first semester of the 2006-07 academic year.
Berkowitz completed the 2006 season with a 1.71 goals against average and .743 save percentage. She was one of two goalies named to the All-ACC Team, and was also honored as an All-Northeast Region Second-Team selection. Berkowitz was named an All-ACC Academic Team honoree last month and was an NFHCA Academic All-American last year as well.
DeFilippo played in all twenty games for the Eagles as the first player off the bench. She finished her career at Boston College with three points on one goal and one assist. This is her third consecutive year on the NFHCA National Academic Team.
This is the first academic honor for Stigas. She redshirted her freshman season and will return to the Eagles roster in 2007-08.
The Eagles finished ninth in the final NFHCA Division I Poll of 2006 and was ranked as high as fourth on October 3, the program's highest ranking ever. Boston College finished with a 14-6 overall record in head coach Ainslee Lamb's second season at The Heights.
