Women's Lacrosse Tops Virginia Tech, 16-15

Blacksburg, Va.--Rookie Lauren Costello notched six goals, while sophomore Emily Hannigan and graduate student Elizabeth Kadison each scored four goals, to lead women's lacrosse to a 16-15 victory over Virginia Tech. The Eagles improve to 3-3 on the season and 1-1 in the ACC. The Hokies drop to 4-5 and remain winless in the conference at 0-2.
Neither team led by more than three goals in a tight game that saw nine ties. The Eagles had their biggest lead of the game with 4:53 remaining when Kadison scored her final tally to put Boston College, 16-13. Virginia Tech netted the last two goals of the game, but could not slip ahead before time expired.
Sophomores Jenna McCabe and Maura Mahoney tallied one goal each to finish the scoring for Boston College. Hannigan and Kadison also each registered an assist.
Seven of the Eagles goals came on a free position shot. The team as a whole went 7-for-11, while Costello went a perfect 4-for-4.
Kari Morrison tended goal for the home team, making 11 saves in 60:00. Sophomore Katie Monaghan played in net for the Eagles and completed the game with 10 saves.
Boston College had a slight 34-32 edge in shots, but both teams were even with 20 turnovers apiece. The Eagles won 18 draw controls to the Hokies' 15. Sophomore Maura Mahoney won 9 draw controls to bring her season total to 35.
The Eagles travel to Burlington to play Vermont on Wednesday, March 21. Game time is 4:00 p.m.
