Women's Lacrosse Stumbles Against Yale, 16-10

New Haven, Conn.--Rookie Lauren Costello led Boston College scorers with four goals in the Eagles' 16-10 loss to the Yale Bulldogs Saturday afternoon in New Haven. The loss drops BC to 1-2 and lifts the Bulldogs to 4-1.
The Bulldogs outshot the Eagles, 35-20, for the game, but most of the other stats told a much tighter story. Groundballs were 19,17 in Yale's favor, while the Bulldogs had just five fewer turnovers than the Eagles, 23-18. The Eagles won the draw control category, 15-13.
Yale and BC traded goals in the first five minutes of play, but the Bulldogs pulled away from there, going on a 7-0 run spanning 14:15. Costello snapped the run at 10:57 with her second goal of the game to put the score at 8-2. Junior Shauna Culhane tallied the only other goal of the half for the Eagles, who trailed 9-3 at the intermission.
Costello again came out shooting in the second half, notching the first goal. Yale went on another run, this time of three goals to none, before both teams traded goals for the remainder of the game.
Sophomore Jenna McCabe notched three goals for the visitors, while classmate Emily Hannigan and graduate student Elizabeth Kadison also each pitched in with a goal a piece.
Kat Peetz struck the back of the net five times for the Bulldogs, and added an assist for a six-point afternoon. Six other Bulldogs had multi-point games.
Sophomore goalie Katie Monaghan played the entire 60:00 for the Eagles making 14 saves on 30 shots on goal.
The Eagles play a make-up game Sunday afternoon against Harvard at the Newton Campus Turf Field. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m.
