Women's Skiing Earns Spot in USCSA Nationals

WATERVILLE VALLEY, N.H. - The Boston College women's ski team qualified for USCSA Nationals in Winter Park, CO this weekend by placing first overall at the ECSC Regionals. The Eagles took first in the slalom race on Saturday, Feb. 24 and placed third in Sunday's giant slalom. The top five teams of the combined standings qualified for Nationals.
On Saturday, in the slalom race, sophomore Courtney Willson finished second in 1 minute 37.48 seconds, freshman Perrie Finsand earned fourth place with a total time of 1:39.07 seconds, sophomore Ashley La Cavalla took eighth in 1:41.18, senior Kara Hoisington placed ninth in 1:41.48, and senior Courtney Culnane tied for 12th in 1:43.43.
Boston College placed first overall in Saturday's slalom race, finishing with an overall team time of 297.73 seconds. Brown University took second with a team time of 299.45. Colby-Sawyer College, Plymouth State University, and Smith College rounded out the top five, respectively.
In Sunday's giant slalom race, Courtney Willson finished fourth with a total time of 2:16.90, Kara Hoisington placed ninth in 2:18.75, Perrie Finsand placed 14th in 2:20.57, Courtney Culnane placed 16th in 2:20.94, and Ashley La Cavalla took 19th in 2:21.63.
The Eagles finished third in Sunday's giant slalom with a total team time of 416.22 seconds. Colby-Sawyer College placed first with a team time of 411.03. Brown University took second in 411.18 seconds. Smith College and Plymouth State University rounded out the top five, respectively.
In the combined individual standings, Courtney Willson placed second, Perrie Finsand sixth, Kara Hoisington 10th, Ashley La Cavalla 14th, and Courtney Culnane 16th.
In the combined team standings, Boston College, Brown University, and Colby-Sawyer College tied for first with four points. Smith College and Plymouth State University were next with nine points each.
"Having all of our five finishers in the top 12 in slalom was incredible," head coach Peter Endres said. "Courtney Willson had another fantastic weekend, placing second overall. She is skiing stronger and stronger as the season progresses. The other girls are stepping up as well. Despite a mistake in the first run, Ashley La Cavalla came back to win the second run of the giant slalom, proving what she is capable of. With the other girls skiing right close to Ashley, the team is confident and excited for their shot at a great result at USCSA Nationals."
The women's ski team returns to the slopes on Wednesday, March 7 for USCSA Nationals in Winter Park, CO.
