ASCUTNEY, VT. - The Boston College women's ski team placed first in the giant slalom race on Saturday, Feb. 10 and finished first again in Sunday's giant slalom. The Eagles placed four skiers in the top eight on Saturday.
On Saturday, in the giant slalom race, freshman Perrie Finsand earned third place with a total time of 1 minute 25.73 seconds, sophomore Courtney Willson finished fourth in 1:25.83, sophomore Ashley La Cavalla took fifth in 1:26.19, and senior Kara Hoisington placed seventh in 1:26.78.
"Perrie Finsand, Ashley La Cavalla, Courtney Willson and Kara Hoisington all had a terrific race in the first GS," head coach Peter Endres said. "On a day when we needed a win, having four skiers in the top eight was incredible. Especially since two of them, Perrie and Kara, had their best GS results of the season."
Boston College placed first overall in Saturday's giant slalom race, finishing with an overall team time of 257.75 seconds. Colby-Sawyer College took second place with a team time of 258.56 seconds. Brown University, Plymouth State University, and Smith College rounded out the top five, respectively.
In Sunday's giant slalom race, Ashley La Cavalla took second in 1:29.57, Courtney Willson finished fifth with a total time of 1:30.91, and Perrie Finsand placed seventh in 1:31.33.
"In the second GS, again it was very tight between us and Colby-Sawyer, a difference of less than a second both days. We needed our top finishers to have great runs to remain in the lead. Again, La Cavalla, Willson and Finsand had a great day to pull off another win and to secure the division title."
The Eagles finished first in Sunday's giant slalom with a total team time of 271.81 seconds. Colby-Sawyer College placed second with a team time of 272.60 seconds and Brown University took third in 274.34 seconds.
"The weekend could not have been any better for the women, and I am very proud and excited for them. They came into the weekend tied with Colby-Sawyer College for first in the division standings. They knew they had to put their best skiing down the hill both days and they did it flawlessly. With a win both days, they showed both determination and athletic ability. I am also very proud of our seniors. For some of them, this was the last race of their collegiate careers. They have done a terrific job as leaders this season. The success of our women's team this year is in no small part due to the support and leadership of our women seniors, and they deserve lots of credit for it."
With two first-place finishes this weekend, the Eagles clinched the ECSC MacConnell Division regular-season title. The Eagles finished the regular season with 18 total points, two points ahead of Colby-Sawyer College. Brown University placed third in the division with 35 total points.
In the MacConnell Division individual standings, Courtney Willson placed first, Ashley La Cavalla fifth, Perrie Finsand eighth, Kara Hoisington 16th, and Courtney Culnane 17th.
The women's ski team returns to the slopes on Saturday, Feb. 24 for the ECSC Regionals in Waterville Valley, N.H.
