ASCUTNEY, VT. - The Boston College men's ski team placed first in the giant slalom race on Saturday, Feb. 10 and took third place in the giant slalom on Sunday, Feb. 11.

"The men had a terrific weekend," head coach Peter Endres said. "Going into the races they had a three point lead over UMass. Gregory Avallon, Andrew Simmons, and Stephen Fiorella, who have all skied consistently in the top-10 this season, had another great day to lead the team scoring. Each of the five scorers was in the top-15, a highlight we have enjoyed several times this year. Also, each of our finishers was in the top-30. On the second day, again we had five skiers in the top-15. I was especially pleased to see freshmen John Ramer and Greg Graves step it up to have their best GS results of the season and help the team score. Despite being third on the day, the men held on to their lead to take their Division title. I am extremely happy for them and very proud. This win is well deserved after their hard work and great skiing this season."
After earning four points this weekend, the Eagles clinched first place in the MacConnell Division of the ECSC with 20 points, finishing two points ahead of second-place University of Massachusetts. Plymouth State University placed third with 28 points on the season.
In the MacConnell Division individual standings, Gregory Avallon placed second, Stephen Fiorella seventh, Andrew Simmons eighth, Shawn Radman 15th, John Ramer 16th, and Greg Graves 18th.
The men's ski team returns to the slopes on Saturday, Feb. 24 for the ECSC Regionals in Waterville Valley, N.H.
