CHESTNUT HILL, MA - Boston College freshman Stefanie Murphy was named the ACC Rookie of the Week as announced by the conference office today. This is the third consecutive week the Eagles freshman earned the honor.
Murphy helped the Eagles capture two victories, extending the Eagles' win streak to five consecutive games. The 6-foot-4 freshman averaged 24 points and 12.5 rebounds in the two games. Against Holy Cross on Tuesday, the rookie from Londonderry, N.H., finished with 22 points, 11 rebounds and went 8-for15 from the field. In addition, Murphy was 6-for-7 from the charity stripe and notched two assists and two blocks in the victory. On Saturday against Rhode Island, Murphy shot 11-for-18 from the field and went a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line to finish with 14 rebounds and 26 points, which tied her career-high. She also had three assists and a steal in the win.
Murphy, who leads all ACC scorers with a 20.0 points per game average, now has six double-doubles on the season, and is three away from the BC freshman record of nine held by Holly Porter in 1993-94. The freshman also ranks second in the league in rebounding (11.0) and fifth in field goal percentage (.612).
Boston College will return to action on Tuesday in a 7:30 contest at Fairfield.
