Women's Soccer Opens Up in NCAA Tournament vs. Connecticut

CHESTNUT HILL, MA - Boston College earned its fifth consecutive berth into the NCAA Women's Soccer Tournament after closing out the regular season finishing fifth in the ACC with a 4-4-2 record and an 11-5-3 overall record.
The Eagles are hosting the first two rounds of the tournament. The first game on Friday, Nov. 16 will feature No. 18 Wake Forest (12-6-3) from the ACC and Boston University (11-6-3) from the America East Conference. The two teams will battle it out at 4 p.m. at the Newton Soccer Field.
No. 17 Boston College (11-5-3) and No. 24 Connecticut (12-5-1) will play at 7 p.m. in the second game of the night. The winner of each game will play on Sunday, Nov. 18 at 1 p.m.
Boston College vs. UConn
BC and UConn met numerous times while competing in the Big East Conference. In 33 matches, UConn holds the lead in the series, 26-5-1. The Eagles did win the last time the two teams played on Sept. 29, 2004. The 2-1 double-overtime victory was the first time the Eagles defeated the Huskies on their home field.
BC vs. BU-Wake Forest
Boston College has defeated both BU and Wake Forest this season. On Sept. 12, Boston College captured a 1-0 victory over Boston University on a goal by freshman Chelsea Regan. Against Wake Forest, Boston College fell behind early, 1-0 in the match. Freshman forward Amy Caldwell tied the game at 1-1 on a lat first half goal. The game-winner came from freshman Brooke Knowlton with 10 minutes to play.
Boston College Notes
• This is the 10th consecutive season the Eagles have posted double-figures in wins.
• BC has advanced to the Sweet 16 round of the NCAA Tournament three consecutive seasons.
• In the final regular season poll, BC was 17th in the country.
• Freshmen Hannah Cerrone and Brooke Knowlton were named to the All-ACC Freshman Team.
• Brooke Knowlton and Natalie Crutchfield each earned All-ACC Co-Player of the Weeks during the regular season.
• Knowlton leads the team in scoring with five goals for 10 points.
• Junior goalkeeper Sarah Buonomo is fourth in the nation in goals-against-average (0.40) and sixth in save percentage (0.88).
• Senior Kia McNeill has played 12 of the 19 games on defense. Prior to ACC action, McNeill moved from her comfort zone on the front line to defense.
• Boston College is ninth in the country in goals against average (0.504). The Eagles have let up only 10 goals in 19 games.
• The Eagles have 11 shutouts this season. Buonomo has earned eight and now has 15 career shutouts.
