Chestnut Hill, Mass. - The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association selected five Boston College cross country runners to its 2007 All-Region Teams on Tuesday.
Senior captain Patrick Mellea and junior captain Timothy Ritchie were selected to the men's team, while sophomores Brielle Chabot, Jessica Driscoll and junior captain Nichole Lister were chosen for the women's team.
This is Mellea's second-straight selection to the All-Region Team and Ritchie's first. Both men earned the award for their top-25 finishes in this past weekend's Northeast Regional Championship. Mellea placed sixth overall in the race, while Ritchie took a career-best 14th place, just missing a bid to the NCAA Championship.
For the women, this is Lister and Chabot's second consecutive All-Region selection and Driscoll's first award. Both Chabot and Lister earned the honor after their performances in last year's Northeast Region Championship. All three women placed in the top-25 of this year's regional race with Lister placing ninth, Chabot taking 15th and Driscoll rounding out the group with a 24th place finish.
All-Region accolades are given to an athlete who finishes in the top 25 at their respective regional meet. The women's team, along with Mellea, will continue to prepare for the NCAA Cross Country Championship held on Nov.19 in Terre Haute, Ind.
