Leksand, Sweden - Forward Meghan Fardelmann scored one of the four goals in the U.S. Women's Select Team's shutout of Sweden in its first game of the Four Nations Cup on Nov. 7.
Fardelmann, from Lansing, Kan., netted her first U.S. goal at 15:38 in the third period to bring the final score to 4-0. The three other goal scorers of the night were Karen Thatcher, who recorded the gamewinner, Erica McKenzie and Sarah Parsons.
Fardelmann was the high scorer at the Women's National Festival in August with five points (2 goals, 3 assists). She was named to the 2007 U.S. Women's Under-22 Select Team, who hosted Canada for three-game series at the end of the summer.
She is one of the two scoring leaders on Boston College (5-3-1, 2-3-0) with eight points and is tied for the team lead in goals with four.
The U.S. Women's Select team dropped its second game to Canada, 6-3, before going on to beat Finland, 2-1. Canada defeated the USA on Sunday in the gold-medal game, 2-0, and the U.S. women left with the silver medal. Fardelmann will rejoin the Eagles for their game Friday, Nov. 6 at 7 p.m. against crosstown rival Northeastern at Kelley Rink.
