Women's Swimming Defeats Stony Brook, While Men Fall

STONY BROOK, N.Y. - The Boston College men's and women's swimming and diving teams split a dual meet against the Stony Brook Seawolves Friday evening. The women (4-1, 0-0 ACC) were victorious, earning a 166-134 win, while the men (2-2, 0-0 ACC) lost, 164-134.
Diver Devon Kelly swept the diving competitions, winning both the 1-meter and 3-meter events. Kelly scored a 223.95 in the 1-meter and a 225.15 in the 3-meter, totaling 18 points for the Eagles.
Jenna DiNovis won both distance competitions, also earning 18 points. DiNovis won the 500 free (5:25.22) and 1,000 free (10:55.53) to help lead BC past the Seawolves.
Five other swimmers on the women's side earned victories for the Eagles. In the backstroke events, Amy Bromann and MacKenzie Campbell each earned victories. Bromann won the 100 back in 1:01.25, while Campbell won the 200 back in 2:14.10. Valerie Crisp (100 breast), Caryn Switaj (200 fly) and Kelly Leahey (200 free) each contributed a win and nine points in their events.
On the men's side, five different BC swimmers won events. Tommy Chandler and Ben Mindes won the 100 and 200 fly events. Chandler finished with a time of 54.55, while Mindes finished first in 2:03.23.
Robert Swaninger and Tim Jordan earned victories in the 100 and 200 breaststroke events in times of 1:04.41 and 2:22.23. John Maloy earned nine points by winning the 200 free event in a time of 1:46.00.
