Chestnut Hill, Mass. - No. 12 Boston College's senior midfielder Caitlyn Young will play in the 2007 NFHCA Division I Senior All-Star game, according to the roster released on Monday, Oct. 22. The game will be played on Saturday, Nov. 17 in College Park, Md., at 7:30 p.m.
Young, a two-year starter, has racked up four goals and two assists for the 12-5 Eagles this season. Three of her goals have come during the Eagles' current four-game win streak. She notched the gamewinner in the shutout of Dartmouth on Sunday, Oct. 14. She is fifth on the team in overall scoring with 10 points.
Head Coach Ainslee Lamb values Young's strong offensive and defensive skills.
"Caitlyn played left midfield this season and there has yet to be an opposing right midfield who has impacted the game against us," Lamb said. "She has shut down some of the top right midfielders in the country with her defense. She is a two-way player because she is a threat on attack and she plays excellent defense."
In her four-year career at Boston College, Young has started 50 of the 65 games she has played in. Her career stats include seven goals and three assists for 17 points, as well as a defensive save in her sophomore year. In 2007, she competed in the USA Field Hockey's National Championship for the New England team in Virginia Beach, Va.
Young is a two-time NFHCA Academic All-American and she earned the Athletics Director's Award for Academic Excellence three times. As a freshman, she earned BIG EAST Academic All-Star accolades as well. In May, she will graduate with a degree from the Carroll School of Management.
Four other ACC players will join Young in Maryland. Duke's Shayna McGeehan and Caitlin William and Maryland's Kathryn Masson and Janneke van Leeuwen and were all chosen to compete in the All-Star game.
