FLUSHING MEADOWS, N.Y. - The Boston College women's tennis team competed at the USTA National Tennis Center Invitation in Flushing Meadows, N.Y. Oct. 6-8.
All seven members of BC earned victories in one or more matches in singles play during the tournament. Dasha Cherkasov defeated Bianca Aboubakare of Brown, 6-2, 6-1 in the Singles "A" division. After a loss to Dartmouth's Molly Scott (6-4, 6-1), Cherkasov defeated Marisa Schonfield, 6-2, 6-0 in the quarterfinals of the consolation round.
Alina Sullivan defeated Cornell's Dana Cruite, 6-4, 6-3, in the first round of the Singles "B" division. Lauren Cash won a Singles "B" division consolation game, 7-5, 6-3, against Katherine Arlak of Rutgers.
Katharine Attwell and Jacqueline Mabatah earned wins in the first round of the Singles "C" division. Attwell defeated Aleksandra Stefanova of Washington State, 7-6, 6-4. Mabatah defeated Liz Corrao of Boston University, 5-7, 6-2, 7-6 (8). In a consolation game, Attwell defeated Kristen Brock of NC State, 6-1, 6-2.
In the Singles "D" division, Gia Nafarrete defeated Syracuse's Chelsea Jones, 6-2, 6-0, in a second consolation round match. Sarah Svoboda earned a first round victory in the Singles "E" division. Svoboda defeated Julia Zak of Dartmouth, 4-6, 6-1 (10-2). She then defeated Natalia Christenson of Colombia, 2-6, 7-5 (6) in a consolation match.
In doubles play, Cherkasov and Attwell defeated Morzan and Lotto from Penn State, 8-6 in a Doubles "A" consolation round match.
BC is back in action when they travel to Norfolk, Va. to compete in the ITA Tournament. The tournament begins Friday, Oct. 19 and ends Tuesday, Oct. 23.
