Boston College Football Coach Jeff Jagodzinski has announced six members of his coaching staff, including:
Frank Spaziani, defensive coordinator - Spaziani, who led BC to a 25-24 victory over Navy in the Meineke Car Care Bowl as Interim Head Coach, will remain on staff as defensive coordinator. Spaziani will be entering his 11th year on the BC coaching staff and his ninth as defensive coordinator. Spaziani joined the BC staff in 1997 after three seasons with the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League. Previously, he was defensive coordinator for two years with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and spent nine years as a member of the Virginia coaching staff, where he was defensive coordinator for his last five seasons in Charlottesville. Spaziani is a 1969 graduate of Penn State University.
Jagodzinski on Spaziani: "Frank's record as a defensive coordinator speaks for itself. Our team was in the top 20 in scoring defense this past year. Frank will bring continuity to our defense and our program."
Bill McGovern, linebackers - McGovern will be entering his eighth season on the BC staff as linebackers coach (and 11th overall). McGovern came to BC after serving as defensive backs coach at Pittsburgh for three seasons. Previously, he coached at Penn, Holy Cross, UMass and Boston College (defensive backs coach, 1994-96). He was a four-year starter at defensive back for Holy Cross before his graduation in 1985.
Jagodzinski on McGovern: "Bill brings toughness to this position, and he's known as one of the top recruiters in the Northeast."
Steve Logan, offensive coordinator - Logan joins the BC staff after three seasons as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach with the Berlin Thunder of NFL Europe. During his stint with Berlin, Logan helped Dave Ragone (2004) and Rohan Davey (2005) earn Offensive Player of the Year and All-NFL Europe honors. Since August 2006, he has hosted a sports talk-radio show in Raleigh, N.C. Logan will be reunited at Boston College with Jagodzinski after working together at ECU from 1989-92 for Coach Bill Lewis. When Logan succeeded Lewis, Jagodzinski remained on his staff for four years before accepting the offensive coordinator position at Boston College. Logan became East Carolina's all-time winningest coach (69-58) and led the Pirates to five bowl games, including the 1994 St. Jude Liberty Bowl, the 1995 St. Jude Liberty Bowl, the 1999 Mobile Alabama Bowl, the 2000 Galleryfurniture.com Bowl, and the 2001 GMAC Bowl. Logan led the 1995 team to a 9-3 record and a No. 23 ranking in the final Associated Press poll. Logan is widely regarded as an offensive architect, and began implementing his system as offensive coordinator for ECU in 1990 and 1991. The 1991 team finished 11-1, reached a top-10 national ranking and defeated NC State in the Peach Bowl.
Jagodzinski on Logan: "Steve is the best teacher of quarterback play I have been around. His offenses will be both dynamic and exciting to watch. Get ready."
Jim Turner, offensive line - Turner joins the Boston College staff after two seasons as offensive line coach and one season as associate head coach at the University of Delaware. A former Boston College team captain and starting fullback, Turner has coached at Northeastern, Louisiana Tech, Harvard, Temple and Delaware. A native of Braintree, Mass., Turner was a three-time letterwinner at Boston College, starting at fullback for two years. He played in the Liberty Bowl, Cotton Bowl and Hall of Fame Bowl under head coach Jack Bicknell and served as the team captain in 1987. Turner graduated from Boston College in 1988 with a degree in sociology.
Jagodzinski on Turner: "Jim is a former BC captain who understands the tradition of Boston College football. He is a former Marine who will bring toughness to this position."
Don Yanowsky, tight ends & special teams - Yanowsky comes to Boston College after serving as tight ends and special teams coach at East Carolina for one season. More recently, he spent three seasons as a member of the Duke coaching staff from 2003 through 2005. Yanowsky is reunited with offensive coordinator Steve Logan, who hired Yanowsky as defensive line and special teams coach at East Carolina in 2001. He also served on coaching staffs at Arkansas State, Minnesota, Memphis, Utah and Toledo. Yanowsky is a native of Chicago and a 1981 graduate of Toledo, where he was a two-year starter at offensive guard.
Jagodzinski on Yanowsky: "Don is a fine coach who will work with our tight ends and special teams. He is one of the top recruiters on the East coast."
Mike Siravo, recruiting coordinator & running backs - Siravo comes to Boston College from Temple University, where he served as recruiting coordinator and linebackers coach last season. Prior to his experience at Temple, Siravo spent the three seasons as linebackers coach and recruiting coordinator at Columbia University. A former linebacker at Boston College, Siravo joined the Eagles as a walk-on in 1994 and later earned a scholarship and became a two-year letterwinner and part-time starter. Siravo also excelled off the field, earning Big East All-Academic team honors as a senior.
Jagodzinski on Siravo: "Mike is a BC alumnus who has worked his way from walk-on to top-notch coach and recruiter. We're excited to have him on our staff."
