WATERVILLE VALLEY, N.H. - The Boston College men's ski team finished third in the slalom race on Saturday, Jan. 20 and took second place in the slalom competition on Sunday, Jan. 21 at the Plymouth State University Carnival. The Eagles placed four skiers in the top thirteen on Sunday.
Sunday's race, originally scheduled to be giant slalom, was changed to slalom due to limited snow.
On Saturday, in the slalom race, senior Gregory Avallon finished fifth with a total time of 1 minute, 8.75 seconds, while freshman Stephen Fiorella placed seventh in 1:08.82.
Boston College placed third overall in Saturday's slalom race, behind University of Massachusetts and host Plymouth State University. The Eagles finished with an overall team time of 370.48 seconds. First-place finisher, University of Massachusetts, had an overall team time of 344.52 seconds.
"It was very windy and cold today, and the snow was very firm. Many of our men struggled to find the finish line. Still, I was happy they were still able to finish in third. Gregory Avallon and Stephen Fiorella are both skiing very well and it showed. I know these guys can consistently ski in the top of the field."
In Sunday's slalom race, Gregory Avallon finished fifth, with a total time of 1 minute 8.90 seconds, sophomore Andrew Simmons took sixth in 1:09.51, freshman John Ramer placed ninth, and junior Shawn Radman raced to a thirteenth-place finish.
The Eagles finished second in Sunday's slalom race, with a total team time of 355.14 seconds. University of Massachusetts took first for the second straight day, finishing 2.29 seconds ahead of the Eagles. Plymouth State University placed third in 356.87 seconds.
"I am very happy with Greg Avallon's skiing," Endres said after Sunday's race. "This year he has consistently been in the top five and I am confident he has room to improve. Andrew Simmons and John Ramer also had a very strong race to help the men finish second."
After earning five points this weekend, the Eagles sit atop the ECSC, with just one point fewer than Plymouth State University and University of Massachusetts
The men's ski team returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 27 for the Colby/Sawyer College Carnival in Pat's Peak, N.H.
