Women's Skiing Races at UConn Carnival

CRANMORE, N.H.- Despite tough snow conditions, the Boston College women's ski team placed first in the giant slalom race on Thursday, Jan. 11 and finished in third place in the slalom competition of the UConn Carnival on Friday, Jan. 12. The Eagles placed three skiers in the top seven of the giant slalom race and two skiers in the top five of the slalom portion.
Sophomore Courtney Willson finished fourth in the giant slalom race on Thursday with a total time of 2 minutes 20.80 seconds, senior Courtney Culnane finished fifth, with a time of 2:21:70, and senior Courtney Hollis placed seventh, with a time of 2:22:35.
In the slalom race on Friday, Courtney Willson took second place, with a total time of 1:34:61. Sophomore Ashley La Cavalla placed fifth with a time of 1:37:91.
Boston College placed first overall in the giant slalom race, with an overall team time of 424.87 seconds. The Eagles finished 2.44 seconds ahead of second-place finisher, Colby/Sawyer College. University of Massachusetts, Smith College, and Plymouth State University, rounded out the top five, respectively.
In the slalom race, the Eagles were third overall with a team time of 295.19 seconds. Colby/Sawyer College finished first, 4.67 seconds ahead of the Eagles. Plymouth State University took second place and Brown University and Smith College finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
"We had a really good start to the season. The team is deep this year and very capable of winning," Head Coach Peter Endres said. "I was very excited to have the team leading after the giant slalom. It shows a lot of promise for the season."
The races, originally scheduled for Friday and Saturday, were moved one day earlier because of snow conditions.
The women's ski team, now second in the Eastern Collegiate Ski Conference, returns to the slopes on Saturday, Jan. 20, for the Plymouth State University Carnival in Waterville Valley, N.H.
