CHESTNUT HILL, MA - Boston College women's soccer team defeated Sacred Heart, 7-0, today at the Newton Soccer Complex in a non-conference match. Boston College improves to 3-1, while Sacred Heart drops to 0-4.
Boston College will now travel to Cambridge to play Harvard on Saturday, Sept. 9 (1 p.m.).
The Eagles scored early and never looked back. Junior Tara Luciani took a beautiful cross from the left side from Kerri McNicholas and struck it by the Sacred Heart keeper Ashley Mocarski. It was Luciani's second goal of the season.
Luciani would then set up junior Kia McNeill in the box as the Eagles jumped out 2-0 at the 17 minute mark. Freshman Gina DiMartino, who now has five goals in four games, notched the first of her two goal, two minutes later. DiMartino was set up by a great push from the back. McNicholas sent McNeill to the corner. McNeill, from the right of the Sacred Heart goal, sent a ball to the far post and DiMartino would just place the ball by a diving goalkeeper.
McNicholas would notch her third assist as she sent Brianna Wilson-Byrne in alone for a Boston College, 5-0, lead at the 37 minute mark. It was Wilson-Byrne's first goal of the season.
In the second half the Boston College defense continued to turn the Pioneers offense away. The defense did not allow as shot, while the Eagles offense produced 23 shots and eight corner kicks to one in the match.
The scoring ended with a penalty kick by Kia McNeill, after she was dropped in the box to give the Eagles a 6-0 lead with 30 minutes to play. Freshman midfielder Kelly Henderson may have had the best goal of the day when she one-touched a cross from freshman Melisssa Gimpel at the 78 minute mark and a 7-0 lead. It was Henderson's first collegiate goal.
