CHESTNUT HILL, MA - The Boston College women's soccer team hits the road this week. The Eagles will travel to Durham, North Carolina to face Duke (5-4-1) on Thursday, Sept. 28 (7 p.m.). Following the match on Thursday, the Eagles will head to Winston-Salem and play their third ACC match of the season against No. 12 ranked Wake Forest (9-2) on Sunday, October 1 (1 p.m.).
The Eagles are currently 7-2 overall and 1-0 in the ACC. The team was ranked 25th by the NSCAA and 26th by SoccerBuzz Magazine this week. Boston College is coming off an impressive 3-0 victory over ACC foe Clemson on Sept. 24. Junior Kia McNeill (Avon, CT) scored the game-winner and her seventh goal of the season in the 24th minute of play. The insurance goals were scored by senior Molly Dane (Acton, MA) and junior Tara Luciani (Calgary, Alberta).
The team will return home on Sunday and prepare to play Miami on Thursday, October 5th at home. A reminder to all fans, the first 100 people through the gate will receive a t-shirt. The Eagles next afternoon game is on Sunday, Oct. 15 as Boston College will host No. 4 ranked Florida State at noon at the Newton Soccer Field.
Corner Kicks ..... Sophomore Sarah Buonomo made her ACC debut in the 3-0 win over Clemson. The Churchville, PA native was challenged early as the Tigers offense had a breakaway just a minute into the action. Buonomo came out of goal, cut down the angle and made a diving save. She would only see three more shots the rest of the game and earned her second shutout of the season and her second victory ... The Eagles defenders Kerri McNicholas (East Islip, NY), Mary Schneck (Dix Hills, NY), Kelly Henderson (Baldwin, NY) and Caroline Walden (Guilford, CT) limited the Tigers to just four shots on goal ... Midfielder Caitlin Burke (Cedar Park, TX) set up the third goal of the day and now has four assists on the season. The sophomore now has three assists in the last three games ... Junior Kia McNeill has been very consistent on offense for the Eagles. She has seven goals and six assists for 20 points. She is in the midst of a seven-game point scoring streak. McNeill, the former Big East Rookie of the Year, has notched a point in eight of the nine games. She leads the ACC in points scored (20). McNeill is also second in the ACC in assists (6) and goals scored (7) ... Boston College leads the ACC in goals scored (32) and assists (36) ... The Eagles are ranked second nationally in scoring, averaging 3.56 goals per game ... In the last four games, the Eagles are 3-1 and have outscored their opponents, 18-4 ... BC is 1-1 vs. Duke and 0-1 vs. Wake Forest ... In 2005, BC defeated Duke, 1-0, on a goal by Maddie Johnson ... Against Wake Forest in 2005, BC lost 2-0 on a goal in the 88th minute. Johnson had scored the game-tying goal in the 82nd minute of play ... Just a reminder, the Eagles game vs. No. 4 ranked Florida State on Sunday, Oct. 8 will be played at noon.
