Men's Tennis Has Strong Performance At Brown Invitational

Providence, R.I. - The Boston College men's tennis team began their season this weekend at the Northeast Intercollegiate Invitational, hosted by Brown University. All 10 Eagles saw action in both singles and doubles in a tournament that included three Big East schools as well as the defending Ivy League champions, host school Brown.
Leading the Eagles was freshman Thomas Nolan who was playing in his first collegiate competition. Nolan went a perfect 4-0 in singles in flight number three defeating who else, but teammate Zach Wolfe in the finals. Wolfe finished with an overall record of 3-1.
The other Eagle seeing his first collegiate action was freshman Brian Garber. Garber also performed well, finishing his flight with a 2-1 record, losing only to the eventual winner, Bucknell's Zach Hascoe.
Senior Soma Kesthely, who played mostly in the No.1 singles position last season for the Eagles, finished his flight with a 2-1 record as well, losing a tough two setter to eventual winner Chris Lee of Brown, who finished the tournament 8-0.
Junior Jason Sechrist, playing in the same flight as teammate Soma Kesthely, also finished with a winning record. Sechrist's only loss would be in the semi-finals to runner-up Saurabh Kohli of Brown, 7-5, 7-5.
Playing in flight number two, sophomore Alex Rastorgouev performed very well advancing to the finals, losing to Matt Fawcett of Rutgers. Rastorgouev finished the flight with a 3-1 record. Teammate Sam Wagner, playing in the same flight, advanced to the semi-finals losing to eventual winner Fawcett, 6-1, 6-3. Wagner finished with an overall record of 2-1.
Rounding out the Eagles in singles was senior Dennis Reardon, sophomore Brian Hartness, and junior Geoff Mueller. After losing his opening match to Rhode Island's Henrik Holmstrom, Reardon would advance to the finals of the consolation round, losing a tough three setter to Lafayette's Eric Wiley.
After losing in the second round of flight number five, Hartness would finish with an overall winning record as he won the backdraw, defeating Bucknell's Dan Bednarek 6-2, 6-3 in the finals.
Similarly Geoff Mueller would lose his opening round match but advance to the finals of consolation flight six, giving him a 2-2 record for the tournament.
Heading the doubles for the Eagles was the tandem of Soma Kesthely and Sam Wagner. After losing their opening round match, the pair went on to win the flight number one consolation round, giving them a 3-1 record for the tournament.
Overall, BC finished 23-11 in singles and 6-7 in doubles. The Eagles are quickly in action again as they travel to Milwaukee, WI for the Marquette Invitational to be played September 22-24.
