The Boston College women's soccer team dropped a tough 2-1 non-conference game to Brown University tonight at the Newton Soccer Fields. Boston College is now 4-2, while Brown University improved to 3-1-2.
Brown scored just six minutes into the game when the Boston College defense gave up an early corner kick. Brown's sophomore Julie Wu sent a ball to the far corner and junior Kerrilynn Carney headed the ball to the far post for a 1-0 lead.
The Eagles would find themselves down 2-0 just five minutes later when Brown senior Kathryn Moos scored off a through ball from freshman Melissa Kim.
Boston College fought hard but could not seem to break through the backline of the Bears defense. The Eagles only managed four shots and just two on goal in the first half.
The Eagles closed the gap in the 36th minute of play when junior Kia McNeill took the ball down the left sideline. She knocked a beautiful cross into the box and freshman Gina DiMartino (seven goals on the season) one-timed the ball into the back of the net.
In the second half, Boston College pressed early and junior Tara Luciani struck a shot wide of goal just two minutes into the play. The Eagles had three corner kicks and numerous chances in the final 10 minutes of play but could not crack the Brown defense.
The Eagles will now travel to Worcester to play Holy Cross on Sunday, Sept. 17 at 7 p.m.
