Women's Soccer Ranked Ninth By SoccerBuzz Magazine

The Boston College women's soccer team has been ranked ninth in the nation by SoccerBuzz Magazine. The Eagles, who just received a fifth place ranking in the Atlantic Coast Conference, is one of four teams from the ACC in the SoccerBuzz Top 10.
The top spot in the rankings went to UCLA, who finished the season at 22-2-2. The second spot went to Santa Clara (17-5-2), the team BC fell to in the Sweet 16 last season. Notre Dame is third, while the ACC's Florida State takes the fourth spot followed by Portland at five. North Carolina, the No. 1 ranked team in the ACC, is sixth followed by Virginia, Penn State, Boston College and Tennessee.
SoccerBuzz Magazine also ranked Boston College as the No. 1 team in the Northeast Region. The top five in the Northeast Region include BC, Yale, Dartmouth, UConn and Harvard.
The Eagles finished fifth in their first season of action in the ACC in 2005. Boston College posted a 13-6-2 overall record and a 5-4-1 conference mark. The Eagles qualified for the NCAA Tournament and defeated Boston University and Dartmouth to advance to the Sweet 16 for the second straight season. Boston College fell to perennial power Santa Clara, 2-1.
Boston College enters its second season in the ACC with 10 returning starters, including senior All-America selection Laura Georges, senior midfielder Jenny Maurer and senior goalkeeper Arianna Criscione.
The Eagles will open up the 2006 season against cross-town rival Boston University on August 25 at Nickerson Field (7 p.m.). Boston College will open the ACC schedule on September 24 as the Eagles host Clemson (1 p.m.).
