Eight teams that earned berths in the NCAA Tournament highlight a challenging 2006 schedule for the Boston College women's soccer team. The schedule, released today, features eight matches against New England foes and 10 matches against Atlantic Coast Conference rivals.
Boston College finished the 2005 season with a 13-6-2 mark, including a 5-4-1 record in ACC action. The Eagles earned their third consecutive NCAA Tournament bid, advancing to the third round before dropping a 2-1 decision to Santa Clara.
Head coach Alison Foley's team opens its season at Boston University on August 25. Two days later, BC plays at Central Connecticut. Each of these opponents earned spots in last fall's NCAA Tournament. BC defeated BU, 1-0, in the tournament's second round.
After six more games against regional foes - including home matches against Northeastern, Sacred Heart, Brown and Rhode Island - Boston College kicks off ACC play with a home game against Clemson on Sept. 24.
The Eagles conclude September with a match at NCAA participant Duke (Sept. 28), then begin October at NCAA participant Wake Forest (Oct. 1). BC's schedule continues with seven more Atlantic Coast Conference matches, including home games against Miami, Florida State, NC State and Maryland. Florida State advanced to the national tournament's semifinal round last fall.
The ACC Tournament will be held at the SAS Soccer Complex in Cary, N.C. from Nov. 2-5. The NCAA Tournament, which begins with first-round action on Nov. 10, culminates with the Women's College Cup - at the same site as the ACC Tournament - on Dec. 1 and 3.
Boston College returns 23 letterwinners, including 10 starters, from the 2005 team.
