Joanne Connelly, who served the last two years as assistant coach at Penn State University, has been named assistant women's lacrosse coach at Boston College, according to an announcement made by head coach Bowen Holden.
"Jo brings a wealth of coaching experience to Boston College, as well as an exceptional playing career," Holden said. "Her desire to coach and mentor student-athletes is tangible, and there is no question her presence will immediately have an impact on our team. We are thrilled she has decided to join our quest to build this program into one of the best in the ACC and in the country."
Prior to her two-year stint at Penn State, Connelly spent two seasons - 2002 and 2003 - as an assistant coach at Stanford University.
Connelly has also enjoyed an outstanding playing career. Still a member of the U.S. National Team, Connelly has competed in three World Cups as a member of the team.
During her undergraduate days at Penn State, Connelly was a three-time All-America selection. The Fairfield, Conn., native earned All-America second-team accolades in 1994, before capturing first-team honors in 1995 and 1996. She served as team captain in her senior season.
Connelly joined the U.S. squad's touring team in 1996 and helped the team win the 1997 IFWLA World Cup title in Japan. She was named the Player of the Match against Scotland during the course of the 1997 World Cup. She was again a member of the gold-medal team during the 2001 World Cup in England.
A 1997 Penn State graduate, Connelly was also a member of the 2000 U.S. touring team in Australia and the 2005 U.S. World Cup team, which was hosted by the United States Naval Academy.
In 2005, Connelly was one of 12 players who were selected to the All-World Team following the World Cup.
Connelly also played soccer at Penn State, twice serving as a team captain.
