Chestnut Hill, Mass. - Boston College freshman midfielder Margot Spatola has been named to the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) All-Northeast Region Second Team. This marks the first post-season award for the 2006 women's lacrosse team.
Spatola, a walk-on this season, led the Eagles in goals scored (31), groundballs (37) and was tied for first with co-captain Elizabeth Kadison in game-winning goals (two). Spatola also ranked second on the team in total points (37) and was tied for third on the team in draw controls (23).
Spatola is now eligible for inclusion on the IWLCA/US Lacrosse All-American team, which will be announced on May 30. The organizations will honor the National All-Americans at a banquet on June 10 in Baltimore.
The Eagles finished their inaugural year in the ACC 8-9 overall and 1-4 in conference play. Six of BC's opponents this year were ranked in the top 13 in the country. The Eagles lose four seniors this year to graduation but return 10 starters for the 2007 season.
