Eagles Continue to Earn Accolades On and Off the Field

Chestnut Hill, Mass. - The Boston College Field Hockey team continues to receive individual and team postseason honors as it competes in spring competitions.
Seven members of the 2005-06 team that earned an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament have been named to the Division I National All-Academic Squad as announced by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association.
The honored players are: Julia Berkowitz, Mary DeFilippo, Bronwen Kelly, Kristen Madden, Meg Palisoul, Jillian Savoy and Caitlyn Young.
The Eagles were also recognized as a team, earning the 2005 NFHCA Division National Academic Team Award for a combined grade point average of 3.0 or higher during the fall semester. Boston College was one of only two Atlantic Coast Conference field hockey teams to receive this recognition.
MADDEN RECEIVES WEAVER-JAMES-CORRIGAN AWARD
Senior Kristen Madden has also been honored as the recipient of the prestigious Atlantic Coast Conference Weaver-James-Corrigan Award. This post-graduate scholarship is given to an outstanding athlete who has demonstrated excellence both in the classroom and on the field. Madden earned All-ACC Academic honors in the 2005 fall semester, for earning a cumulative and semester GPA of 3.00 or higher. In addition to her academic accomplishments, Madden, an accounting major, earned first team All-American status and All-ACC honors for her athletic accomplishments. She scored a team-high 32 points, and tallied 12 goals and a team-best eight assists. Madden will receive her award at a luncheon in Greensboro, NC on April 13. The $5,000 award will go towards her post-graduate education.
SPRING COMPETITIONS AND EVENTS
The Eagles continue to compete in regional spring competitions throughout the month of April. Boston College will play in two tournaments after the Easter break, at UNH on April 23 and Harvard on April 29.
Following the Harvard tournament on April 29th, the team will host its Spring Reception to recognize the accomplishments of the 2005 season and honor the nine seniors who will be graduating in May.
