
Women's Rowing Finishes Fifth at ACC Championships

CLEMSON, S.C. - The Boston College women's rowing team earned a fifth-place overall finish in the program's first-ever ACC Championships on Saturday, April 22. Under cloudy skies on Lake Hartwell, the Eagles' novice eight crew finished second, BC's highest finish in the conference regatta.
Virginia won the team title with 60 points, followed by Duke in second with 43 points. The third place team on Saturday was Miami with 34 points, followed by Clemson with 30. Fifth-place Boston College scored 25 points, while North Carolina was sixth with 17 points.
BC's novice eight posted a time of 7 minutes 3.5 seconds and finished 13.4 seconds behind Virginia (6:50.1). North Carolina (7:10.4), Miami (7:13.8) and Clemson (7:15.3) rounded out the field of five. The Eagles' novice eight lineup consisted of coxswain Lauren Gaspary, Kimberly Marakovits, Anna Dehen, Tracy Maciolek, Brittany Bryan, Katherine Flynn, Paula Gonzalez, Heather Schofield and Emily Merchant.
"The novice eight has been doing a really great job progressing through the season," assistant coach Wendy Wilbur said. "They did a great job today. Overall, our team has represented Boston College well in the program's first ACC Championship."
In the morning's first race, the varsity four, BC raced to a fifth-place finish. Virginia took first place by posting a time of 7:23.4. The Cavaliers finished 16.9 seconds ahead of Clemson (7:40.3). Duke (7:46.5) and Miami (7:49.6) finished third and fourth, respectively. North Carolina clocked in behind the Eagles at 8:16.2. BC's varsity four lineup included coxswain Whitney Lomax, Susanna Dello Russo, Katherine Sullivan, Thayer Rosenberg and Kelsey Dippold.
The Eagles finished third in the second varsity eight race, posting a time of 6:55.8. Virginia (6:50.1) and Duke (7:03.5) finished ahead of BC, respectively. Miami (6:57.7), Clemson (7:01.8) and North Carolina (7:04.7) rounded out the bottom three. The Eagles' second varsity eight crew consisted of coxswain Lauren Ferrara, Karen Hill, Aimee Wessel, Katie Rankin, Trisha Mack, Jacyln Davison, Sarah Burns, Liz Orofino and Elizabeth Keyser.
BC finished sixth in the afternoon's final contest, the varsity eight race. Virginia (6:31.0) edged Duke (6:31.9) by 0.9 seconds to finish first in each of the day's four races. Miami (6:39.1), Clemson (6:43.3) and North Carolina (6:44.5) all finished ahead of the Eagles, respectively. BC's varsity eight lineup included coxswain Kate Donovan, Elizabeth Millar, Claire Arpin, Bridget Regan, Lauren Carey, Angelique Hrycko, Carolyn Lynch, Emily Burke and Patton Hindle.
The rowing team returns to the water on Saturday, May 6, to compete in the ECAC/METRO Championships on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass.
