Women's Lacrosse Falls To No. 7 Maryland, 13-11

Newton, Mass. - The women's lacrosse team dropped a tough game to the No. 7 University of Maryland Terrapins Saturday afternoon at the Newton Campus Field, 13-11. The Eagles led early in the first half, but the No. 7 `Terps managed to out-score BC, 8-6 in the second half to take the win. Freshman Margot Spatola led the Eagles with three goals while senior tri-captain Elizabeth Kadison tallied a team-high four points on two goals and two assists. The `Terps improve to 11-5 while the Eagles fall to 8-7 overall and 1-4 in ACC action.
Freshman Lauren Fitzpatrick scored the first two goals for the Eagles first on a free-position shot at 25:22 then three minutes later off a pass from Kadison as BC went up 2-0. Spatola scored her first goal on a free-position shot at 21:29 putting the Eagles up 3-0.
Mindy Jones scored the `Terps first goal at 14:12 on a free-position shot, cutting the lead to two but the Eagles answered right back on a Katie Wagoner free-position goal at 11:50. Freshman Jenna McCabe scored the last goal of the half for the Eagles as Maryland went on a 4-1 run to bring the teams into a 5-5 tie going into halftime.
Kadison scored her first goal of the game 55 seconds into the second half, putting the Eagles up 6-5, but the Eagles would answer with three straight goals to take the lead for the remainder of the game. Spatola scored at 22:19 to bring the Eagles within one at 8-7, but the `Terps gained momentum and went on another 3-0 run to go up by five.
The Eagles kept battling as Spatola scored her third goal of the game with 11:27 left in the game and Kadison scored next on a free-position shot bringing the Eagles within three at 12-9.
Katie Princiotto scored the last goal for the `Terps from Casey Magor to put Maryland up 13-9. McCabe and senior Lizette Blohm scored the Eagles' final two goals but time expired as the `Terps took the game, 13-11.
Sophomore Courtney Zwirko started the game while making three saves on net. Maryland's Allie Buote recorded the win with 10 saves on goal.
The Eagles travel to Baltimore, Md. on Thursday, April 27 to play in their first-ever ACC quarterfinal game at M&T Bank Stadium.
