CRANMORE, N.H. - One day after finishing fifth in the MIT Carnival (Loon, N.H.), the women's ski team raced to a second-place finish in the UConn Carnival's rescheduled slalom race. The slalom portion of the UConn Carnival - originally slated for Sunday, Jan. 14 - had been postponed due to inclement weather.
Junior Kara Hoisington led BC's return to first place in the ECSC standings by finishing third (1 minute, 20.10 seconds) in the UConn Carnival's slalom competition. Juniors Courtney Culnane and Courtney Hollis finished sixth and seventh, respectively.
Skiers had to battle with rain and fog in Cranmore, as snow has become thin throughout the Northeast. In the less-than-favorable conditions, Brown raced to a first-place finish in the UConn Carnival, as Colby/Sawyer, Smith and Plymouth State rounded out the top five.
The women's ski team finished fifth overall in the MIT Carnival on Saturday, Feb. 4. Freshman Courtney Willson led the way for the Eagles, finishing sixth overall (1:53.59) in the giant slalom event. Culnane finished eighth, posting a total time of 1:54.04.
The University of Massachusetts took first place in Loon, N.H., as Plymouth State, Colby/Sawyer and Brown all finished ahead of BC.
"After a tough day at Loon, they came back strong on Sunday to regain the conference lead," head coach Peter Endres said. "Kara Hoisington finished a season-best third, with Courtney Culnane and Courtney Hollis skiing solid to back up her scoring. Under some tough conditions, the team did a great job this weekend."
The women's ski team returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 11, as the Eagles host the Boston College Carnival in Acustney, Vt.
