CRANMORE, N.H. - Junior Greg Avallon paced the men's ski team to back-to-back third place finishes in the MIT Carnival (Loon, N.H.) and the UConn Carnival's rescheduled slalom race over the weekend.
Avallon finished third in the slalom portion of the UConn Carnival with a total time of 1 minute, 45.58 seconds on Sunday, Feb. 5. The slalom race, originally slated for Sunday, Jan. 14, had been postponed due to inclement weather. Senior Andy Wallman and sophomores Shawn Radman and Benjamin Moloney all finished in the top 15.
Plymouth State and Massachusetts finished first and second, respectively. BC's second crew raced to an eighth-place finish.
Avallon and junior Thatcher Merrill paced the Eagles on Saturday, finishing seventh and eighth, respectively. Avallon (1:10.57) finished less than 0.40 seconds before Merrill (1:10.90) in the slalom competition. Freshman Andrew Simmons raced to a 14th-place finish, posting a total time of 1:14.27. Wallman and senior Peter Bohlin finished 16th and 17th, respectively.
The Eagles finished behind first-place Colby/Sawyer and Plymouth State. With both third-place finishes, the Eagles trail third-place Massachusetts in the conference standings by one point and lead fifth-place Babson by 11 points.
"I was really happy to see the guys start skiing more consistently as a team this weekend," head coach Peter Endres said. "Greg Avallon had a great race on Saturday and finally saw the podium for the first time this season. In the slalom, Avallon and Thatcher Merrill had very solid races. Our consistency will help us a great deal as the season progresses."
The men's ski team returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 11, as the Eagles host the Boston College Carnival in Acustney, Vt.
