WATERVILLE VALLEY, N.H. - The Boston College women's ski team won the USCSA Eastern Regional Championship after finishing first in the slalom competition on Saturday, Feb. 25 and third in the giant slalom race on Sunday, Feb. 26. BC qualified to compete in the USCSA National Championships, set to take place in Sugarloaf, Maine, from March 6-11.
Freshman Courtney Willson led BC with her first-place slalom finish on Saturday, posting a time of 1 minute 31.33 seconds. Junior Courtney Culnane took the podium the next day after posting a third-place finish (1:41.12) in the giant slalom race. Culnane and Willson finished third and fourth, respectively, in the weekend's overall results.
Four Eagles placed in the top 12 of the slalom competition, including Willson. Culnane finished fifth (1:33.91), junior Kara Hoisington came in seventh place (1:36.16) and junior Courtney Hollis raced to a 12th-place finish (1:37.65).
In Sunday's giant slalom race, three BC skiers including Culnane finished in the top 20. Hollis earned a sixth-place finish (1:43.27) and sophomore Keegan Garnsey finished 19th (1:47.27).
"Needless to say, I am thrilled with their performances this weekend," head coach Peter Endres said. "These girls skied their best of the season, which is great considering nationals are a week and a half away. Each of them are contributing to the team, and I look forward to them stepping it up even more next week."
BC finished one point ahead of Brown, as Plymouth State, Colby-Sawyer and Massachusetts skied to a three-way tie for third place. The Eagles return to action on Monday, March 6, in the USCSA National Championships in Sugarloaf, Maine.
