WATERVILLE VALLEY, N.H. - The Boston College men's ski team qualified for the USCSA National Championships by posting a fourth-place finish at the USCSA Eastern Regionals on Feb. 25-26. BC finished fourth in the slalom competition on Saturday and in the giant slalom race on Sunday.
Junior Greg Avallon paced the Eagles with his third-place giant slalom finish on Sunday, posting a time of 2 minutes 5.03 seconds. Four other Eagles joined Avallon in the top 25. Junior Thatcher Merrill finished 12th (2:07.29), as freshman Andrew Simmons (2:08.58) and junior Andy Wallman (2:08.88) finished 16th and 17th, respectively. Senior Peter Bohlin rounded out the top 25 (2:12.49).
In Sunday's giant slalom race, four Eagles finished in the top 25. Wallman (1:34.83) and Avallon (1:35.06) finished 10th and 11th, respectively. Simmons (1:38.34) and sophomore Shawn Radman (1:38.82) raced to 22nd and 23rd-place finishes, respectively. Avallon led BC by earning a top-five overall finish.
"Although the men didn't make the podium, they finished 10 for 10 starts on the weekend - five in the slalom and five in the giant slalom," head coach Peter Endres said. "This consistency is something the men have struggled with this season. This weekend proved that they can all put it down the hill and finish as a team together."
Plymouth State and Massachusetts tied for first place in the regional championship, as Colby-Sawyer finished third. BC and Babson rounded out the top five. All top-five schools advance to the USCSA National Championships, on March 6-11 in Sugarloaf, Maine.
