
Women's Fencing Wins New England Championships

Chestnut Hill, Mass. - Boston College women's fencing took home the New England Collegiate Championships Sunday at Wellesley College with a two-point victory over perennial champion MIT. A complete team effort gave the Eagles their second New England Championship in the fifteen year history of the program.
Boston College won 92 bouts over the course of 14 rounds, while five fencers qualified for the individual rounds. Senior Meaghan O'Malley was 13-1 in the team round and ultimately took silver in the individual foil round. Fellow senior Clara Yum, 11-3 in the team rounds, finished second in epee. Junior Carrie O'Connor (epee), sophomore Jane Leahy (saber) and senior Stephanie Mariconda (saber) also advanced to the finals of the individual round.
