
Marine Captain and Former Fencer Earns Silver Star

Chestnut Hill, Mass. - Marine captain and former Boston College men's fencing member Brian Von Kraus '00 was awarded a Silver Star for his bravery and exemplary leadership. In a February 8 ceremony, Major General Richard Natonski, commanding general of the 1st Marine Division, presented Von Kraus with the honor.
Von Kraus and his platoon were conducting a patrol south of Fallujah when the group fell victim to an ambush. Lt. Von Kraus displayed exceptional bravery as he dismounted his vehicle and entered the enemy zone to aid his stricken Marines.
Lt. Von Kraus was a member of the men's foil squad during his time at Boston College. Brian was the recipient of the team's 1998-99 Leadership Award.
