Freshman sabreur Malcolm Conley was the standout for the BC men's fencing team, posting a 10-2 record for the day in action against Vassar, MIT, Yale and St. John's at the team's first dual meets of the season. The men's sabre squad as a whole was an impressive 3-1 in their portion of the meets. The team dropped a close one to an improved Vassar men's team before beating rival MIT.
The young women's team showed great promise, besting Vassar 20-7 before dropping two close matches to Cornell and MIT. Four of the nine fencers in the starting line-up were freshman competing in their first collegiate dual meet. Freshman foilist Deanna Rakowsky, was 8-7 for the day while Senior Carrie O'Connor also had an 8-7 record on the epee side.
Both teams return to action in January when they will face Brown, MIT and Brandeis in Northeast Fencing Conference action at Brown University.
