Chestnut Hill, Mass.--After two big wins against league foes over the weekend, 10th-ranked Boston College women's ice hockey had three individuals receive league or national recognition this week. Freshmen forwards Allie Thunstrom (Maplewood, Minn.) and Megan Keever (Harrisburg, Pa.) earned the TPS Player of the Week and Mission Hockey Rookie of the Week, respectively, from Hockey East, while sophomore forward Becky Zavisza (Suffield, Conn.) received USCHO Offensive Player of the Week honors.
In a 7-2 upset victory over the then-number two team in the country, New Hampshire, at Kelley Rink on Thursday night, Zavisza notched her fourth and fifth goals of the season and her fourth assist. Not letting up Saturday afternoon against cross-town rival Boston University, Zavisza scored her second power-play goal of the weekend to give the Eagles an early 1-0 lead. The forward also picked up an assist on a power-play goal in the second period. Zavisza, who earned a plus-four on the weekend, leads the team in shots (40) and points (11).
Thunstrom also got on the board often for the Eagles, scoring two goals in each game, including the gamewinner in the 5-2 win over the Terriers on Saturday and a shorthanded score to begin the Eagles' scoring against the Wildcats. She finished the weekend with four points and with a plus-five.
Keever compiled four goals, two on the power play, against UNH and BU to bring her season goal total to six. She also picked up an assist against BU and tallied the gamewinner in the win over the Wildcats.
Keever and Thunstrom were also both runners-up for USCHO's Offensive Player of the Week.
Boston College looks for its fourth consecutive win when Brown arrives at Kelley Rink for a 7:00 p.m. match-up Thursday evening. The Eagles will then play three games on the road before returning to the Heights on Saturday, December 2 to host the Connecticut Huskies at 1:00 p.m.
