
Taverna Receives Weekly Defensive Award

Chestnut Hill, Mass.--Sophomore Maggie Taverna (Howell, N.J.) received Hockey East's Pure Hockey Defensive Player of the Week after a three-point effort against the UConn Huskies Saturday afternoon in Storrs, Conn. Taverna is the fourth member of Boston College's women's hockey team (9-1-1, 5-1-0) to receive one of the league's weekly awards this season.
The Eagles handed the Huskies their first league loss of the season by a 5-2 margin with help from Taverna. The sophomore assisted on Boston College's first and fifth goals on the afternoon. Taverna also scored the gamewinner just :54 into the second half on a power play for her first goal of the season. Compiling a goal, eight assists and nine total points this season, Taverna leads all Boston College defenders in scoring.
During her freshman campaign last season, Taverna played in all 35 games and led the Eagle defense in scoring with 18 points.
Boston College will participate in the UNH Tournament this weekend in Durham. The Eagles will face Mercyhurst on Friday and Wayne State on Saturday, each at 4:00 p.m. at the Whittemore Center.
