
Women's Tennis Competes At USTA Women's Invitational

Flushing, N.Y. - The doubles tandem of sophomores Lauren Cash and Dasha Cherkasov and sophomore Alina Sullivan, highlighted what was a very encouraging performance for the Eagles at the USTA National Tennis Center this weekend.
Cash and Cherkasov would finish the tournament with a 3-1 record, defeating No. 2 seeded Lena Litvak and Stephanie Schnitter of Harvard 8-4 in the second round, before losing to the eventual champions from N.C. State in the semi-finals.
In her first match, Alina Sullivan defeated the No. 1 seed in her flight, Preethi Mukundan of Harvard, 7-6 (4), 6-3 before falling to Charlie Tansill of Pennsylvania in a tough three-setter, 2-6,6-3,10-8. Sullivan would finish the tournament with a 2-1 record.
Senior Lindsey Nash also played well for the Eagles as she advanced to the quarterfinals of her flight before losing to ACC foe and No. 4 seeded Julia Roach from N.C. State. Nash took down Carey Markowitz of Dartmouth and had an impressive win over No. 8 seeded Nanar Airapetian of Arkansas, 6-4, 6-2. She finished the tournament with a 2-1 record.
Junior Gia Nafarrete would also finish the tournament with a winning record. Nafarrete defeated Dartmouth's Jen Murray 6-4, 6-1, and Kristen Scott of Princeton before falling in the quarterfinals to Carolina Huignard of Syracuse.
After dropping their first match, the doubles team of Brittany Delaney and Gia Nafarrete would earn two wins in the back draw giving them a winning record for the tournament.
