CHESTNUT HILL, MA - The women's soccer team will host two consecutive ACC opponents this week at the Newton Soccer Fields. On Thursday, the Eagles will host Miami at 7 p.m. Boston College will then have two days to prepare for the No. 5 team in the nation, Florida State. The Seminoles will battle the Eagles on Sunday, at noon at the Newton Soccer Field.
Head coach Alison Foley and the Eagles, who are now 7-4 overall and 1-2 in the conference, return to the Heights after suffering two ACC road losses (Duke, 1-0; No. 9 Wake Forest, 2-0).
"This past week has shown the competitiveness of the ACC. Any team is capable of beating another and this is exactly why the best players in the country chose to play in the ACC,'' said coach Foley. "We have two great teams coming in to BC this week; Miami is coming off of a huge win against UVA and FSU is third in the country."
The first task for the Eagles will be to play Miami, who is coming off a huge ACC victory over Virginia on Sunday. The Eagles are 5-1 overall vs. the Hurricanes (7-4 overall, 1-3 ACC). Last season the Eagles defeated the Hurricanes, 2-0, on goals from Maddie Johnson and Molly Dane.
On Sunday, Oct. 8, the Eagles will play at noon against Florida State. The Seminoles are ranked 5th in the nation by the NSCAA, third by Soccer America and fourth by SoccerBuzz Magazine. The Eagles are 1-1 vs. the Seminoles. The only win came in 2004 when the Eagles captured a win on penalty kicks in the first-round of the NCAA tournament. In 2005, it would be the Seminoles turn to win as they defeated Boston College, 3-0.
BETWEEN THE PIPES:
Sophomore Sarah Buonomo has played well as she notched her third straight start of the season on Sunday vs. Wake Forest. Buonomo is now 2-2, has two shutouts and has made 14 saves in five games. Three of her career starts are against ACC teams (Clemson, Duke, Wake Forest).
"Sarah (Buonomo) has started in goal for all the ACC games and has acclimated herself extremely well to the level of play in the conference,'' said Foley.
SHE'S BAAACK!!:
Senior defender Laura Georges is back from playing two matches with the French Women's National Team. While away, the Eagles went 2-2, but her national team posted a 2-1 win over Austria and a 1-1 tie vs. England. Expect to see No. 5 in the backline on Thursday night at 7 p.m. vs. Miami.
"We are excited to have Laura (Georges) back in the line-up. She has missed six games this season and having her back solidifies us in the back. We get up-graded at midfield as some of our players can now move back to their primary positions.''
GIVEAWAYS:
On Thursday, Oct 5 the first 100 fans will receive a t-shirt and team poster. The fun does not end as in the match on Sunday, there will be posters available and BC prizes for the fans. Just a reminder the game on Sunday vs. Florida State starts at noon.
