Chestnut Hill, Mass.--Women's Hockey East named Boston College's Molly Schaus (Natick, Mass.) as its Pure Hockey Defensive Player of the Week on Monday after she stopped 58 of 61 shots against a pair of Ivy League teams this weekend. Schaus led the 10th-ranked women's hockey team to a 2-2 draw against ninth-ranked Princeton on Friday and a 3-1 win over Yale on Saturday afternoon.
The freshman goaltender let up two early goals in the first period against the Tigers, but rebounded to make 12 saves in the first, four in the second, 11 in the third, and two in the five-minute overtime period for 29 overall. Against Yale, Schaus shutout the Bulldogs on the power-play and again made 29 saves for the game. After turning away 58 shots on the weekend, the Eagle netminder more than doubled her season save total to 113 in two days.
Schaus has compiled a 4-0-1 record this season and has led Boston College to an identical record, including 1-0-0 in league competition. The Eagles are one of three women's Hockey East teams still undefeated.
Hockey East previously named Schaus the Defensive Player of the Week on October 2 and the ITECH Rookie of the Week on October 8.
Boston College faces off against second-ranked New Hampshire on Friday night in Durham, N.H. at 7:00 p.m. and then heads into Boston proper for a 2:00 p.m. tilt against Northeastern on Sunday.
